1967 Austin 1100 MK 1. Body and underside is solid as a rock & it has been waxoiled within an inch of its life, including every cavity. Only 21500 miles, believed to be genuine. No mechanical faults whatsoever. Everything works as it should. Paintwork isn’t pristine, but its nice & shiny. Interior in good order.
It has had loads of new parts in the last year, clutch, all brake parts, including wheel cylinders, drums & discs & pads, alternator conversion, starter motor, petrol pump, water pump, all water hoses, clutch master cylinder, brake master cylinder, suspension pipes, driveshaft couplings, petrol tank sender unit, Carb needle and jet with new gaskets, timing cover oil seal. Complete new windscreen washer systems with quadruple jets. Exhaust, full service with all filters, plugs, points. Fuel tank has been drained and cleaned out and new in line filters and tank magnets fitted. Radiator and heater box both been removed and thoroughly cleaned, flushed & filled with new anti freeze. The only issue now is getting it hot on a cold day. New door rubbers, window infills, interior light, hubcaps, & more.
Interior is pretty good with a fresh headliner, trims and new top quality carpets.
The seats are only O.K, the driver’s seat has a small tear and the backside of both front seats has a discolouration which I can’t get off. Rear seat is in good order. Presently has seat covers to hide the front seat imperfection.
Runs and drives as smooth as silk, no rattles or bangs, everything is tight and smooth. Good tyres all round, all wheels balanced. The indicators do not self cancel, I have fitted a beeper so you know if the indictors are still on.
They all look good in photos…….
The only ‘issue’ it has is the paintwork…. In pictures and from 6 feet away it looks lovely.
Get closer and you can see it has had a poor paint job in the past. Too much paint in some places, barely enough in others. I have over the months, rubbed a lot of it down starting with 240 grit, going through the grades to 2000 grit, then Tcut and turtle wax polish and it looks heaps better than when I got it.
It will never be concourse without a proper respray but it is quite presentable as it is and shines up a treat. You won’t be ashamed to be seen driving it, but you wouldn’t enter it in a show unless you have a good sense of humour.
I don’t have the facility to respray it myself and I can’t justify spending thousands to have somebody else do it.
The only other observation is that it has, over time, had new or replacement windows / panels. Many of the windows have the etched registration numbers which used to be all the rage, in this case they are nearly all different….
I bought this with lots of mechanical faults as you can see by the amount of new parts fitted listed above. but the body was always solid & good (except the paint)
I have used it as a hobby, I can’t now do any more as it’s a perfect little runner, I have been all over it mechanically with a fine tooth comb and sorted everything, so time to move it along and start another one to do the same.
I don’t expect to get back what I have spent on it, that’s the price of the hobby, but I would like it to go to someone who can enjoy it and maybe do a better job on the paint. With a good paintjob this would be worth much much more.
Comes with a box of bits including a new needle bearing type CV joint, all removed hoses, old seat belts, removed fan belt, plugs, points, spare fuel filter elements, old hub caps, not pristine but O.K condition, Haynes workshop manual, small tin of matched touch up paint and some other bits.
Of course its over 55 years old, and registered as an historic vehicle so no road tax or MOT needed, Costs me just £67 a year insurance.
Better still this car is exempt ULEZ charges, so a saving of £12.50 a day for ULEZ in London means this car would pay for itself in a year!
